Health Promotion Officer is a Community Health Worker whose main focus is on primary healthcare, with health promotion as a vital aspect. The HPO plays a pre-emptive role in the assessment and identification of health needs as well as to intervene in primary healthcare activities.

Purpose Of Study
What will you Study?
The purpose of this training is to prepare the learner to;
- Carry out basic assessments of communities, households groups and individuals.
- Provide basic health education and referrals for a wide range of services.
- Support and assist in navigating the health and social services system
The Qualified Learner Will Be Able To?
Course Duration
It can be done in twelve (12) months on full-time attendance (i.e. Mon to Fri) and learners will write national exams after completing the course. Learners who pass will receive an Occupational Certificate: Health Promotion Officer approved by Quality Council for Trades & Occupations(QCTO).
Training Requirements.
Ancillary Health Care NQF Level 1 or
ABET Level 4 with FLC or
Grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 (No specific subjects are required)
- The learners must be adequately mobile to execute the work within a community.
- Adequate visual and hearing capacity to master the skills as described in the curriculum document.
